Florence: Exceptional temperatures are set to hit Italy by Sunday, with forecasts predicting the mercury will reach 40°C in the shade in Florence, Ferrara, and Terni, according to forecaster Antonio San². The temperature in Milan and Rome is expected to reach 39°C.

According to Ansa News Agency, San², founder of the website www.iLMeteo.it, indicated that maximum temperatures could surpass historical records, including those from the notorious heatwave of 2003. These extreme daytime temperatures will be paired with tropical nights, where minimum temperatures will stay above 20°C. It is anticipated that both the South and Center-North of Italy will experience widespread minimum temperatures of 25°C and maximums of 40°C.

San² emphasized that the anticyclone currently dominating the country will persist for at least 10 days. The first peak of the heatwave is expected on Thursday, June 26, with a second, even more extreme peak on Sunday, June 29, followed by a probable slight drop in temperatures after Wednesday, July 2.
