Rome: Fabio Capello expressed confidence on Monday that Claudio Ranieri is the ideal candidate to succeed Luciano Spalletti as head coach of Italy’s national team. Spalletti was dismissed following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Norway in the team’s opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

According to Ansa News Agency, Ranieri has emerged as the frontrunner for the position, thanks to his impressive track record. Ranieri recently demonstrated his managerial prowess by taking over at AS Roma last November. Despite the team’s poor start to the season, he managed to turn their fortunes around, securing a spot in the Europa League for the upcoming season.
