Heatwave Set to Scorch Italy with Temperatures Reaching 37°C
Rome: A heatwave is set to hit Italy this week with temperatures rising as high as 37 degrees Celsius, forecasters have said.
According to Ansa News Agency, Mattia Gussoni, a meteorologist for the website www.iLMeteo.it, confirmed the formation of a real atmospheric block for the coming days. This configuration will see the African anticyclone extend for several thousand kilometers, from South to North, protecting almost the entire Mediterranean basin and a significant portion of Europe, from Gibraltar to Scandinavia.
Gussoni explained that under these conditions, weather patterns will remain almost immobile for many days, characterized by abundant sunshine and an absence of rain in most regions. Italy will find itself at the center of this high-pressure bubble, with temperatures expected to rise several degrees above the climate averages, resulting in stifling heat across more than half of the country. Maximum temperatures are anticipated to reach up to 36-37°C in regions including Tuscany, Lazio, Molise, Basilicata, Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia, and Calabria, with some internal areas of the two major islands potentially experiencing temperatures as high as 40°C.
Muggy and hot weather will also prevail in other regions, with cities such as Milan, Bologna, and Rome likely reaching peaks of 33-34°C. These conditions are expected to continue throughout the week, from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th June. Gussoni indicated that there is currently no sign of relief from this atmospheric block until at least the last ten days of the month.

– Monday 9th: In the North, sunny but less hot; in the Center, sunny with a slight drop in temperatures; in the South, sunny but less hot.
– Tuesday 10th: In the North, sunny with rising temperatures; in the Center, very hot and sunny; in the South, all regions sunny with intense heat.
The outlook for the second part of the week suggests a continuation of the African heat across the country.
