Ramy Rider Fares Gets 2 Years 8 Months for Resisting Arrest

Turin: The rider of a scooter that outran police cars for eight kilometers in Turin until it crashed, allegedly hit by a patrol car killing the 19-year-old Egyptian-Italian passenger last November, on Thursday got two years and eight months in jail for resisting arrest.

According to Ansa News Agency, Fares Bouzidi, a friend of Ramy Elgaml, the 19-year-old Egyptian who was aboard the scooter driven by the 22-year-old and who died in the crash on November 24, at the end of a chase of about eight kilometers by the carabinieri, was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison. This sentence matched the one requested by prosecutors for resisting a public official.

The ruling was made by Judge Fabrizio Filice in the preliminary hearings of Milan, during an abbreviated trial. In addition to the jail sentence, the judge ordered Bouzidi to pay compensation of 2,000 euros to each of the six carabinieri involved, who had requested compensation for moral damages.
