Probe into Torture, Rapes at Prato Prison

Prato: Prosecutors in Prato said Tuesday that they were investigating some ‘ghastly’ cases of alleged torture and rape by inmates on other prisoners at the Tuscan city’s La Dogaia prison. They said that one case regarded an inmate who allegedly repeatedly raped his cellmate by threatening him with a razor.

According to Ansa News Agency, in a second case, two inmates allegedly tortured and raped a homosexual drug addict in prison for the first time for several days. They said the victim was brutalized with clubs, boiling-hot pots, and punches to the head and was repeatedly forced to have sexual intercourse and live in a regime of continuous terror.

Prosecutors have also launched an investigation into rioting at the prison on Friday and Saturday last week.
