Premier Meloni Announces Focus on Middle-Class Tax Cuts at Accountants Conference

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni announced her government’s new focus on implementing tax cuts for the middle class during a speech at the States General of Chartered Accountants 2025 conference on Tuesday. Meloni emphasized the importance of fostering a cooperative relationship between tax authorities and citizens.

According to Ansa News Agency, Premier Meloni highlighted the government’s goal of reducing taxes in a manner that is both fair and sustainable. She acknowledged that while progress had been made with the reform that reduced the number of Irpef income-tax bands from four to three, there is still more work to be done. The current focus is on supporting the middle class, which she described as the backbone of Italy’s production system.

Meloni stressed the importance of creating a fair taxation system that supports societal prosperity without overwhelming families and businesses. She noted that the government’s objective is to align taxation levels with the services provided by the State and to utilize resources wisely.

The Premier also defended her government’s record on combatting tax evasion, dismissing claims that they have aided tax evaders through amnesties. She stated that her administration has achieved unprecedented success in the fight against tax evasion and maintained a stringent stance against tax dodgers, while supporting honest citizens facing financial difficulties.
