Pope Leo XIV to Visit Nicaea in November for Anniversary Celebration

Nicaea: Pope Leo XIV will visit Nicaea in November, the patriarch of Constantinople announced on Monday. According to Ansa News Agency, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, shared this development during an interview with Tg2000, the news program of Tv2000. The patriarch expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation between the churches and highlighted the Pope’s commitment to visiting Turkey for the anniversary of Nicaea. Though a specific date has not been finalized, a possible date of November 30th was mentioned.

Pope Leo XIV confirmed the plans last Monday, indicating preparations were underway for the visit. This visit is set to fulfill a commitment made by his predecessor, Pope Francis, to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea. The historic council remains a significant event for all Christian denominations, as it addressed key theological issues, including the divine nature of God the Son.

If the visit proceeds as planned, it will also provide an opportunity for Pope Leo XIV to meet with Patriarch Bartholomew, the leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church. This encounter is anticipated to further strengthen the ties between the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox communities.
