Vatican city: Pope Leo XIV expressed his concern about the rise in political violence following the murder of Conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the United States. This concern was shared during a meeting on Saturday with the new US Ambassador to the Holy See, Brian Francis Burch, as he presented his credential letters, the Vatican reported on Tuesday.
According to Ansa News Agency, during the conversation with the new US Ambassador, the Pope confirmed that he is praying for Charlie Kirk, his wife, and his children. The Pope also expressed his concern about political violence and emphasized the need to refrain from rhetoric and instrumentalization that lead to polarization rather than dialogue, as stated by Holy See Press Office Director Matteo Bruni.
