Pope Leo XIV Declares August 22 as Day of Fasting and Prayer for Global Peace

Vatican city: Pope Leo XIV, during his weekly general audience on Wednesday, announced that Friday, August 22, the feast of Mary the Queen, will be dedicated to fasting and prayer for world peace by the faithful.

According to Ansa News Agency, Leo XIV, who recently returned to the Vatican from the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, emphasized the significance of the day. He highlighted the memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queenship, revered as the Queen of Peace. The Pope expressed his concerns over the ongoing conflicts affecting regions such as the Holy Land, Ukraine, and other parts of the world.

Pope Leo XIV urged all believers to participate in this day of fasting and prayer on August 22, asking them to seek divine intervention for peace and justice. He expressed his hope for an end to the suffering caused by continuous armed conflicts. The Pope appealed for the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace, to guide humanity towards a path of peace.
