First Gorilla Born in Italy in Half a Century

Fasano: The first gorilla in 50 years has been born in Italy. The baby gorilla was born at the Fasano Zoosafari, located in the province of Brindisi.

According to Ansa News Agency, the zoo and safari park shared the news on their official social media page, highlighting the significance of this birth. A statement from the facility described the event as a beacon of hope for the conservation and protection of gorillas. The mother, Tamani, is reportedly caring for her newborn with the father’s, Nasibu’s, watchful presence.

This birth in Italy comes just over a year after similar significant events at the London and Prague zoos, where two baby gorillas were born, indicating positive trends in efforts to sustain and protect gorilla populations worldwide.
