Pope Francis Urges Church to Prioritize Care for Abuse Victims

Vatican City: Pope Francis emphasized the necessity for the Church to extend hospitality and care to abuse victims in a message sent to the participants of the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. The assembly is scheduled to continue until Friday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the pontiff’s message highlighted the importance of providing “victims and survivors hospitality and treatment for the soul’s wounds in the style of the good samaritan.” This call to action underscores the Church’s responsibility in addressing the needs and healing of those affected by abuse.

Francis also encouraged participants to “listen with the ear of the heart,” ensuring that every victim has the opportunity to experience “depths of mercy from which they can be reborn.” His message conveyed a deep sense of commitment to offering genuine support and understanding to those who have suffered.

The pontiff further urged vigilance against ignoring the pain of abuse victims. “May the Holy Spirit, teacher of live memory, preserve us from the temptation of setting aside pain rather than curing it,” he stated, reinforcing the need for ongoing care and healing within the Church.
