Piedmont Extends Anti-Heat Ordinance to Delivery Riders

Piedmont: Piedmont on Wednesday extended to food delivery riders measures provided for by the anti-heat ordinance that regulates working conditions in situations of direct and prolonged exposure to the sun, including workers in the quarry and logistics sectors.

According to Ansa News Agency, Piedmont Governor Alberto Cirio stated, “A year ago we were the first Region in Italy to adopt an ordinance to regulate activities in the event of exposure to the sun and high temperatures and today we are the first to extend the scope of application to those who make deliveries in the city by bike or scooter.”

The extension of the ordinance aims to safeguard the health and safety of delivery riders who are exposed to high temperatures during their working hours. The measures include specific regulations that dictate working conditions under intense sun exposure, ensuring that these workers receive adequate protection and breaks to mitigate the risks associated with heat-related illnesses.

By including delivery riders in the ordinance, Piedmont is setting a precedent in Italy for expanding worker protection in environments susceptible to extreme weather conditions. The decision highlights the region’s commitment to enhancing labor protections amid changing climate conditions that can adversely affect outdoor workers.
