Piantedosi Meets Libyan Counterpart for Migrant Talks
Rome: Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi met his Libyan counterpart Imad Trabelsi in Rome on Thursday to take stock of the migration situation, the interior ministry said. The discussions centered on exchanging ideas about shared strategies to combat illegal migration.
According to Ansa News Agency, the two ministers agreed that an effective solution to block the irregular flow of migrants is the implementation of assisted voluntary repatriations from Libya to the countries of origin. This strategy is to be carried out in collaboration with main international partners, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
