Piacenza in Mourning for Death of Favourite Son Armani
Milan: Piacenza has declared a day of civic mourning for Monday, the day of Giorgio Armani’s funeral, after the favourite son of the Emilia-Romagna city died aged 91 Thursday. Piacenza, where Armani was born on July 11, 1934, will also be in mourning like Milan, his adopted home on Monday, Mayor Katia Tarasconi announced, expressing the condolences of the city administration and the entire community.
According to Ansa News Agency, the passing of Giorgio Armani is news that today shocks and touches the hearts of the world, because his name was synonymous with class, elegance, harmony, and refinement everywhere. These qualities, along with the unparalleled mastery of his art and his extraordinary talent, were celebrated in his native Piacenza just over two years ago, when the Catholic University awarded him an honorary degree in Global Business Management.
Mayor Tarasconi emphasized the significance of Armani’s legacy, stating, “We will never forget the emotion of that meeting, which for all of us represented an opportunity to pay proud and affectionate tribute to a fellow citizen who reached the highest peaks, but never forgot his roots.” The community of Piacenza, along with Milan, will remember Armani not only for his contributions to fashion but also for his connection to his birthplace.
