Italy to Honor Giorgio Armani Before World Cup Qualifier Against Estonia

Bergamo: The Italian national soccer team will pay tribute to Giorgio Armani before their World Cup qualifier match against Estonia on Friday night in Bergamo. This announcement comes from Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) President Gabriele Gravina, following the passing of the legendary fashion icon, who died at the age of 91 on Thursday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Gravina expressed his and the FIGC’s sorrow, highlighting Armani as “a true king of fashion.” Armani, renowned as one of the most celebrated designers globally, was instrumental in elevating the ‘Made in Italy’ brand, having established his eponymous company in the 1970s. Gravina mentioned on X that Armani would be honored by the federation at Bergamo Stadium prior to the kickoff against Estonia.

Gravina emphasized the significance of Armani’s loss for Italy, acknowledging his inspiring and fervent contributions to both fashion and sport as a source of national pride. He conveyed his gratitude for Armani’s achievements, particularly when Armani chose to dress the Italian national football team. Gravina praised Armani’s relentless pursuit of excellence and his dedication to his craft, which served as a constant inspiration.

Armani’s close ties to the sports world were evident when he designed the Italian national football team’s uniforms for the 1994 World Cup. In 2019, Emporio Armani became the official fashion and luxury outfitter of the Italian Football Federation, continuing to dress the senior national team, women’s national team, and the Under-21 team.
