?ouse President receives European Law Society delegation

The role of small states in the European Union, the need for legal and political reforms and the role that parliaments can play to this end, the protection of European borders and migration were on the agenda of a meeting House President Annita Demetriou had with a delegation of European Law Society led by its President Julian Wachinger.

Demetriou briefed the delegation on the Cyprus issue and on the challenges the Republic is faced with as a small state of the EU in relation to its effective participation in all institutions.

They also touched upon the issue of social media and legal options which exist to further regulate various issues while preserving transparency in political and social life.

Demetriou assured Wachinger of the willingness of the House of Representatives to cooperate with the European Law Society in the context of proposals and legal initiatives that will be proposed, in order to bring about important reforms for the benefit of the country and the citizens.
