New Workplace Death at Steel Plant in Trentino Raises Safety Concerns

Trentino: Italy faced another workplace tragedy when a 46-year-old Slovenian worker was fatally struck by a truck in the yard of the Acciaierie Venete steel plant located in Borgo Valsugana. The incident was reported by the local newspaper, L’Adige.

According to Ansa News Agency, workplace fatalities continue to be a significant concern in Italy. Premier Giorgia Meloni’s administration has identified the enhancement of health and safety standards as a primary objective. The workplace accident and occupation illness insurance agency, INAIL, noted in its annual report in July that work-related deaths in Italy increased by one last year, reaching a total of 1,202.

President Sergio Mattarella emphasized the need for ongoing vigilance against workplace deaths during a recent message to the chairwoman of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into Working Conditions. He highlighted the importance of the States General conference on Occupational Health and Safety as a platform to renew commitments to tackling workplace accidents and fatalities.

“The second edition of the States General on Occupational Health and Safety is an opportunity to reaffirm, with renewed determination, the commitment not to give up in the face of accidents and deaths at the work,” President Mattarella stated. He stressed that ensuring job safety requires a collective effort from institutions, businesses, workers, and social partners, underscoring the need for a unified approach to achieving shared safety goals.
