Mussolini’s Great-Grandson Readies for Serie A Debut
Cremona: Romano Floriani Mussolini, the son of politician Alessandra Mussolini and the great-grandson of Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, was presented as a new player for promoted Serie A side Cremonese on Wednesday. The 22-year-old right-back has joined Cremonese on loan from Lazio with an option for a permanent move after playing in Serie B with Juve Stabia last season, also on loan.
According to Ansa News Agency, Romano expressed his desire to focus solely on football, stating, “I’m here to play football.” He acknowledged that his famous surname seems to bother others more than it does himself. Emphasizing his commitment to the sport, he mentioned, “I’m happy to be here, I accepted immediately when the green light was given. My surname has never caused me any problems and, from my point of view, the less said about it, the better. I’m here to express myself on the pitch, nothing else.”
Romano addressed the controversy that arose last season when some Juve Stabia fans performed Fascist salutes following one of his goals. He described the incident as “pointless” and reiterated his wish for discussions about him to focus on his performance on the field. He shared that football is a primary topic of conversation within his family, especially with his father, and now increasingly with his mother. Romano concluded by expressing his determination to prove his value through his gameplay.
