Molise Governor Francesco Roberti Probed for Corruption Charges

Campobasso: Molise Governor Francesco Roberti is under investigation for corruption charges, a probe led by DDA anti-mafia investigators in Campobasso that involves 45 individuals and two companies, as confirmed by Roberti on Wednesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Roberti, who is affiliated with the centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party, has been informed that the investigation against him and the other suspects has concluded. The governor’s wife is also a subject of the probe, as revealed by investigative sources.

The investigation is focused on alleged waste dumping activities and implicates both the Molise and Puglia regions. Sources indicate that Roberti and his wife are being scrutinized concerning public contracts.

According to Campobasso State Attorneys, between 2020 and 2023, during Roberti’s tenure as president of Campobasso’s province, which oversees waste dumping authorizations, administrator of local industrial consortium Energia Pulita, and mayor of Termoli, he allegedly received money for himself and his wife in return for granting favors to the company Energia Pulita.

The charges against the 45 individuals and two companies under investigation include extortion, illegal waste dumping, and auction rigging. The investigation also explored alleged connections between crime syndicates in Puglia and Molise from 2019 to 2021, although this aspect does not involve Roberti.
