Minute’s Silence for Gaza at Schools Deemed ‘Dangerous’ by Jewish Community

Turin: The Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) has raised concerns over initiatives like the minute’s silence for Gaza that was observed by some schools in Turin on Wednesday at the start of the academic year, labeling them as dangerous.

According to Ansa News Agency, UCEI expressed their apprehension in an appeal addressed to Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara and other officials. The group emphasized the potential risks of focusing solely on the suffering in Gaza during such initiatives. They highlighted the importance of remembering all individuals affected by conflict and violence, including Israeli children, former hostages, orphans, the wounded, and those impacted by the Hamas massacre of October 7.

The UCEI statement further underscored the necessity of acknowledging the plight of “Ukrainian children,” advocating for a more inclusive approach to commemorations and reflections in schools on the first day of the academic year.
