Budapest: Miklós Soltész, State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office for Church and Ethnic Relations and KDNP politician, emphasized the significant contribution of the Hungarian Maltese Charity in food rescue operations during a statement in Budapest. Of the six charitable organizations involved in the program, the Maltese Charity has delivered the largest amount of food to those in need over the past three years.
According to KDNP, a collaborative effort between the government, charitable organizations, and retail chains has facilitated the distribution of 8,500 tons of food to the needy, valued at HUF 8.7 billion over the past three years. The Maltese charity service played a key role in this effort. Soltész highlighted the importance of rescuing food with a close expiration date but ensuring it is not spoiled. He also noted that the amount of food, medicine, and medical aids sent to Ukraine in the past thousand days amounted to 5,400 tons.
Soltész mentioned that since 2023, the budget has supported
charitable organizations in building warehouses and purchasing machinery for food rescue. The next year’s budget will allocate HUF 200 million each to the six organizations that form the charity council. He assured that the Hungarian Maltese Charity, along with other organizations, can expect continued governmental support.
Lajos Gyori-Dani, executive vice president of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, expressed gratitude for the government’s support through the charitable council in constructing a new warehouse. He stressed that storage and donation management are integral parts of their charitable work, not mere technical tasks. Gyori-Dani recalled various storage locations used over the past 34 years, including a basement in Zugliget and a factory in Csepel. A modern warehouse was recently built in the IX district to better serve the charity’s operations and its daily customers.
The executive vice president also paid tribute to the late Imre Kozma, the founding president of the love service, acknowl
edging his lasting influence and exemplary life.
Csaba Bisztriczki, the logistics manager of the love service, detailed the construction of their warehouse in 2020 on a 6,500-square-meter lot. The new facility features a 1,421 square meter building with 732 square meters dedicated to warehouse space and additional offices. A 26 square meter refrigerated warehouse was also designed, capable of storing a total of 720 pallets.
