Migrant Arrivals in Italy Surge by 136% in 2025

Rome: With the surge in landings recorded over the weekend, approximately 1,500 migrants arrived, bringing the total number of migrant arrivals in Italy to 3,074 so far in 2025. This marks an increase of 136% compared to the same period in the previous year, as reported by the interior ministry on Monday. The favorable sea conditions have been cited as a key factor facilitating these departures, primarily from Libya towards Lampedusa.

According to Ansa News Agency, the ministry data revealed that the most numerous nationalities among those who landed included Pakistanis, numbering 525, followed by 321 Bangladeshis, 206 Egyptians, and 119 Syrians. Additionally, the ministry reported that among the arrivals, there were 221 unaccompanied minors.
