Carabinieri Officers Set to Join European Mission at Rafah Border

Rome: Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on Monday that Italian Carabinieri officials will soon depart to participate in a European military mission at the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. The officers will travel together from Italy on a flight provided by the nation’s armed forces, marking a significant European commitment and the continued involvement of Italian Carabinieri who previously trained the National Palestinian Authority’s police in Jericho.

According to Ansa News Agency, the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Rafah (EUBAM) aims to serve as a third party at the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, fostering trust between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority. The mission had been suspended following the outbreak of the conflict between Hamas and Israel but is set to resume after a ceasefire.

Tajani emphasized Italy’s readiness to increase its presence in the Middle East, not only politically but also through military involvement in Palestine. The participation of the Carabinieri in this mission underscores Italy’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region.
