Meloni Unveils National Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism

Rome: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced a comprehensive national strategy to combat anti-Semitism, emphasizing that the phenomenon was not eradicated with the liberation of Auschwitz, as she marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day on the 80th anniversary of the camp’s liberation.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted that the Nazi plan, infamous for its calculated brutality, had the complicity of Italy’s Fascist regime. She described anti-Semitism as a “plague” that survived the Holocaust, evolving into new forms and spreading through modern tools and channels. The premier stressed that combating anti-Semitism, in all its manifestations, is a priority for her government.

Meloni’s message reiterated an unwavering commitment to fighting anti-Semitism, promising to promote a robust national strategy. This strategy will be a detailed document outlining specific goals and actions to counter the phenomenon, which she declared has no place in society. She recalled the revelation of the Holocaust’s horrors to the world, noting that the gates of Auschwitz, torn down in January 1945, symbolized the exposure of the Nazi plan to persecute and exterminate the Jewish people.

The premier recounted the tragic events where men, women, children, and the elderly were forcibly taken from their homes, transported to extermination camps, and murdered solely for their Jewish faith. She condemned the racial laws and the Fascist regime’s involvement in roundups and deportations in Italy, underscoring the unprecedented tragedy orchestrated by Hitler’s regime with Fascist complicity.
