Lecce: The leader of Italy’s largest and most left-wing labour union CGIL, Maurizio Landini, on Monday called upon Premier Giorgia Meloni to convene a meeting with the management of Stellantis and union representatives. This call to action follows the sudden resignation of Carlo Tavares as the CEO of Stellantis, which occurred amidst reports of a decline in the group’s profits.
According to Ansa News Agency, Landini emphasized the necessity for discussions on industrial policies and investments in Italy. He highlighted the current state of the automotive sector, noting that only just over 300,000 cars are expected to be produced in Italian plants this year, despite having a production capacity of nearly 1.5 million vehicles. Landini expressed concerns over the significant gap between production capabilities and actual output, a situation reminiscent of challenges not seen since the 1950s.
Landini further insisted on the need for clear communication regarding which investments are being made and the types of
models being produced in Italy. His statements underscored a pressing demand for strategic clarity and action to address the issues faced by the automotive industry in Italy.
