Meloni Expresses Concern Over US Tariffs, Confident in Reaching a Deal

London: Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed significant concern on Sunday regarding the potential impact of US tariffs, emphasizing the risk of an escalation that could be detrimental to all parties involved. However, she remains optimistic that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted Italy’s position as an exporting nation, underscoring the problems that would arise from the imposition of duties. She noted that such measures might prompt a response from the European Union, leading to a situation that could weaken all involved. Despite these concerns, Meloni expressed confidence in finding solutions that prioritize agreement over conflict.

Speaking to the press at the Italian ambassador’s residence in London following a summit on Ukraine, Meloni emphasized the importance of negotiations. She mentioned the approach of US President Donald Trump, describing him as someone who prioritizes deals. “We are talking to a dealer who thinks about deals, we must think about deals,” she stated, reinforcing her belief in the possibility of reaching a constructive resolution.
