Meloni, Erdogan, and Dabaiba Discuss Migrant Crisis in Istanbul
Istanbul: Addressing illegal migrant flows was one of the issues Premier Giorgia Meloni discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abdulhameed Mohamed Dabaiba, the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, during a trilateral meeting in Istanbul on Friday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to address common migration challenges. The Italian premier’s office stated that Meloni highlighted the success of past collaborations with Turkey, suggesting these experiences could support Libya’s efforts in managing migration.
Meloni emphasized a series of proposed actions to tackle international human trafficking networks, prevent irregular migration, and assist Libya with its current migratory pressures. She reiterated Italy’s commitment to Libya’s stability, unity, and independence, advocating for a Libyan-led political process facilitated by the United Nations to lead to elections.
The three leaders agreed to continue technical discussions to identify specific joint actions with a clearly defined timeframe.
