Tel aviv: Israeli author David Grossman expressed his heartbreak over the situation in Gaza, describing it as genocide in an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica published on Friday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Grossman shared his reluctance over the years to use the term “genocide” but felt compelled to do so now. He cited reports, images, and firsthand accounts as the catalysts for his change in stance. Grossman emphasized the gravity of associating such a term with Israel and the Jewish people, indicating that something deeply troubling is occurring.
Grossman explained his previous efforts to avoid labeling Israel as a genocidal state, but now, with a heavy heart, he acknowledges the harsh reality he perceives. The author warned about the implications of using the word “genocide,” stating that it is a term that grows in significance and brings further destruction and suffering once it is uttered.
