Meloni Engages in Trilateral Talks on Migration with Erdogan and Libya’s Dabaiba

Istanbul: Addressing illegal migrant flows was one of the issues Premier Giorgia Meloni discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abdulhameed Mohamed Dabaiba, the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, during a trilateral meeting in Istanbul on Friday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Italian premier’s office released a statement indicating that the leaders focused on strengthening cooperation to manage migration flows. The meeting emphasized leveraging successful strategies previously implemented with Turkey to aid Libya’s efforts in managing migration.

The discussions also covered actions against international criminal networks involved in human trafficking, improving the prevention of irregular migrations, and supporting Libya in handling migratory pressures. Premier Meloni underscored Italy’s commitment to Libya’s stability and unity, advocating for a Libyan-led, United Nations-facilitated political process aimed at elections.

The leaders agreed to continue technical-level work to determine concrete joint actions within a defined timeframe, aiming for effective solutions to the migration challenge.
