Meloni Engages in Strategic Talks with Tunisian President Saied

Tunis: Premier Giorgia Meloni held discussions with Tunisian President Kais Saied in Tunisia, focusing on bilateral cooperation and shared regional interests.

According to Ansa News Agency, the talks centered on various cooperative projects, including the Mattei Plan for Africa. The leaders also revisited the joint declaration on development cooperation activities signed earlier in January.

The meeting highlighted collaboration in water and agriculture, emphasizing the TANIT project aimed at utilizing wastewater for agricultural land reclamation and establishing a regional agricultural training center. Additionally, Meloni and Saied reviewed their commitment to addressing migration challenges, focusing on combatting human trafficking networks and promoting legal migration pathways, as outlined in the Rome Process.

Energy cooperation was another key topic, with discussions on how Italy and Tunisia act as strategic hubs linking Africa’s energy production with Europe’s demand. Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s dedication to constructing the ELMED power line, crucial for connecting Italy, Tunisia, and Europe, while also highlighting the Italian private sector’s involvement in renewable energy projects in Tunisia.
