Mattarella ‘Reading Newspapers’ After Successful Pacemaker Operation

Rome: President Sergio Mattarella was reported to be “fine” and in a “stable” condition following a successful pacemaker surgery at Rome’s Santo Spirito hospital. The procedure took place on Tuesday evening after he completed his official duties for the day.

According to Ansa News Agency, Mattarella spent a restful night in the hospital’s cardiology department and was symptom-free following the operation. Remarkably, he was able to read newspapers on his iPad on Wednesday morning. The President’s office emphasized that the surgery was a planned procedure and there was no cause for concern.

Sources indicated that Santo Spirito hospital typically discharges patients within 48 hours after such operations. Therefore, it is possible that President Mattarella could be released as early as Wednesday, although a Thursday discharge appears more likely.

The announcement of Mattarella’s hospitalization prompted an outpouring of well-wishes from politicians across the spectrum, including Premier Giorgia Meloni. “My warmest wishes to President Mattarella for a speedy and full recovery,” Meloni expressed on social media. “Italy awaits you soon, with the same strength and dedication as always.”
