Mattarella, ‘Beacon of Trust in Europe’ Says Lagarde

Florence: European Central Bank Governor Christine Lagarde on Wednesday called President Sergio Mattarella a “beacon of trust in Europe”. “Few can match your extraordinary career and her unwavering dedication to the well-being of the Italian people, and at a time when trust across Europe is being tested, trust in you has continued to grow,” Lagarde said in an address to Mattarella, who was received by the ECB Governing Council in Florence.

According to Ansa News Agency, Lagarde praised Mattarella’s career and contributions to Europe during her speech. She acknowledged the challenges Europe is currently facing and expressed her admiration for Mattarella’s ability to inspire confidence during these testing times. Lagarde candidly admitted that speaking before such a distinguished public servant could heighten the pressure of addressing European challenges effectively.
