ECB Aligns with Mattarella’s Vision, Panetta Confirms

Florence: The European Central Bank identifies with President Sergio Mattarella’s words on the importance of Europe in the world, Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta told the Italian head of State as the ECB board received him in Florence Wednesday. “All the members of the Governing Council present here identify with your words,” said Panetta, addressing Mattarella, who in September had said “the world needs Europe.”

According to Ansa News Agency, Panetta assured President Mattarella that the spirit he described is present in all the ECB meetings he attends. Panetta emphasized Mattarella’s call from September, highlighting Europe’s role in rebuilding the centrality of international law, which has been compromised.

Panetta further echoed Mattarella’s desire to relaunch cooperative multilateralism and establish rules that prioritize the common good over the overwhelming influence of global corporations. The ECB’s alignment with Mattarella’s vision underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering a collaborative international environment.
