Mattarella Advocates for Strengthened Transatlantic Relationship

Rome: President Sergio Mattarella on Thursday called for a full relaunch of the transatlantic relationship. Addressing researchers from the International Affairs Institute (IAI), he emphasized the importance of strategic autonomy and its connection to this pivotal relationship, which he described as a cornerstone of Italy’s foreign policy.

According to Ansa News Agency, Mattarella highlighted that the rapport between allies should not lead to withdrawal but should instead foster reaffirmed dialogue. This dialogue should be underpinned by mutual respect and a shared understanding of common interests and values. He stressed that Italy’s prosperity is deeply rooted in European integration, its participation in the Atlantic alliance, and its strong support for the United Nations.
