Man of Ukrainian Origin Arrested in Italy for Alleged Involvement in Nord Stream Explosion

Rimini: A man of Ukrainian origin allegedly involved in the September 2022 Nord Stream explosion between Russia and Europe has been arrested in Italy, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday. The 49-year-old Ukrainian man, identified only as Serhii Ki, was apprehended by paramilitary Carabinieri police at San Clemente in the province of Rimini. He had been vacationing in Italy with his family for several days, sources revealed.

According to Ansa News Agency, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office has charged Serhii Ki with involvement in the Nord Stream explosions. The incident has been a point of contention between Russia and Ukraine, with both countries trading accusations over the sabotage. The man has been taken to prison and is currently awaiting the execution of a European arrest warrant by the Bologna Court of Appeal.

Reports suggest that Serhii Ki was allegedly on a yacht chartered for the alleged sabotage on the pipeline on September 26, 2022. Despite the arrest, neither Ukraine nor any other country has been officially implicated in the incident.
