Left-Wing and Right-Wing Squats Both Crimes Says Tajani
Rome: Left-wing and right-wing squats are both crimes, Foreign Minister and centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) leader Antonio Tajani said after the eviction of the historic counter-cultural Leoncavallo ‘social centre’ squat in Milan and amid criticism of an alleged failure to act against the neo-Fascist CasaPound’s HQ squat in Rome Thursday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani emphasized that occupying someone else’s space is illegal, stating it violates property rights and the freedom of others. The recent eviction of a social center in Milan, which had long been associated with illegal building and degradation, was described by Tajani as a restoration of legality and respect for the rules.
Tajani expressed gratitude to the State Police, the Carabinieri, and everyone involved in the Leoncavallo eviction operations. He stressed that the action was not politically motivated but rather a matter of justice. He reiterated that there is no distinction between left-wing or right-wing occupations, as both constitute a crime.
