Let’s Focus on Common Ground, ANPI President Urges Amid Tensions with Italian Jews

Milan: The President of the Italian Partisans Association (ANPI), Gianfranco Pagliarulo, on Monday made an appeal to focus on common ground amid tension with Italy’s Jewish community over its stance on Israel. The call comes after the Milanese Jewish Community’s decision to boycott a Holocaust Remembrance Day event in the city, citing ANPI’s description of the conflict in Gaza as a genocide.

According to Ansa News Agency, Pagliarulo emphasized the importance of unity and overcoming prejudice during his appeal. He urged both communities to look toward the future, particularly the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Italian Liberation Day on April 25. Pagliarulo expressed a desire to move past preconceived opinions and to come together to commemorate shared historical moments.

Pagliarulo reassured that ANPI has consistently played a significant role in Shoah commemorations and intends to continue doing so, regardless of any ongoing controversies. His remarks are seen as an attempt to bridge the divide and reinforce the longstanding collaboration between ANPI and Jewish communities in Italy.
