Leoncavallo Eviction Highlights Zero Tolerance on Squatting, Says Piantedosi

Milan: The eviction of young leftists, anticapitalists, anarchists, and social activists from the historic ‘social centre’ of Leoncavallo in Milan indicates the government’s zero tolerance policy on squatting, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated after police executed the eviction order on Thursday. “The eviction of the Leoncavallo social center marks the end of a long season of illegality,” Piantedosi commented.

According to Ansa News Agency, Piantedosi emphasized that for thirty years, the building had been occupied illegally. He further noted the added burden on the state, which was compelled to compensate for damages caused by the occupation. “Today, legality is finally being restored,” he asserted.

The government maintains a clear stance of zero tolerance for illegal occupations, Piantedosi highlighted. Since the current mandate began, nearly 4,000 properties have already been evicted. He described the Leoncavallo eviction as a part of a consistent and determined strategy that the government is committed to pursuing.
