28-Year-Old Worker Killed by Forklift in Bologna Area

Bologna: A 28-year-old worker was killed by a forklift in the early hours of the morning in the Bologna area, the latest in a spate of accidental workplace deaths in Italy. Working a night shift, the man was operating a forklift to move bags of pellets inside the Green Energy company when, according to an initial reconstruction, the vehicle struck and crushed him, possibly due to a brake not being engaged.

According to Ansa News Agency, the young worker was of Pakistani origin and a legal resident in Italy. In response to the increasing number of workplace accidents, Premier Giorgia Meloni announced that her government was allocating 650 million euros in new funds to enhance workplace health and safety measures ahead of the May Day national holiday.

The government recently engaged in discussions with trade unions in May, focusing on improving health and safety standards in the workplace. Additionally, workplace accident insurance agency INAIL has reported an 8.37% increase in work-related deaths, totaling 205 fatalities in the first quarter of the year.
