League to Propose Campaign Against Von Der Leyen’s Readiness 2030 Plan

Rome: Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini’s League party announced Sunday its intention to propose that the right-wing Patriots group, to which it belongs at the EU level, launch a campaign aiming to change European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s Readiness 2030 defence plan.

According to Ansa News Agency, the League issued a statement expressing readiness to propose an initiative inviting EU Commission President von der Leyen to review the 800 billion euro defence plan, previously known as ReArm Europe, in collaboration with its Patriots’ allies. The League emphasized the need for European citizens to receive investments in jobs, health, and internal security rather than substantial investments in ammunition or rearmament plans, which they deemed unnecessary.

The League also expressed its desire for a comprehensive, in-depth debate within the European Parliament, a discussion that it claims German leader von der Leyen is keen to avoid. The League’s stance reflects its commitment to redirecting EU resources toward areas that directly benefit European citizens, rather than military expenditures.
