NAPLES: King Felipe VI of Spain emphasized the importance of collaboration among pro-European Union, democratic countries during a lecture at the San Carlo theatre in Naples. The address was part of the Spanish royals’ two-day State visit to Italy, where the king highlighted the significant roles Spain and Italy play within this alliance.
According to Ansa News Agency, King Felipe VI articulated the necessity for modern, democratic nations to unite in order to uphold and promote shared values. “It is important to unite the forces of modern, pro-European countries firmly rooted in democratic values, within which Spain and Italy occupy a very significant space,” he stated, underscoring the strategic position both nations hold in fostering these ideals.
The king also turned his focus to the realm of higher education, underscoring its vital role in societal development. He described universities as crucial platforms for seeking truth through reasoned discourse and dialogue between differing opinions. “A univers
ity must be the place where we learn to seek the truth through reason, dialogue between opposing opinions: a safe space where we can freely and rationally discuss the issues that trouble and worry society,” he explained.
King Felipe further elaborated on the role of academic reflection during complex times, emphasizing its connection to societal needs.
