King Charles Addresses Italian Parliament, Confirms Climate Warnings

Rome: King Charles, in a historic address to the Italian parliament on Wednesday, stated that his warnings about the climate emergency from 16 years ago have unfortunately been confirmed. He paid tribute to the Roman poet Virgil, recognizing him as a pioneer of sustainable farming through his work, the Georgics.

According to Ansa News Agency, King Charles expressed his concerns by stating, “The warnings I launched 16 years ago on the urgency of the climate crisis are sadly confirmed by events.” He elaborated on the escalating climate issues, mentioning the frequent extreme storms and the increasing number of species at risk of extinction. He emphasized the critical nature of these stakes, especially highlighting Italy’s extraordinary heritage and its rich biodiversity, which boasts the highest number of species in Europe.

The monarch also drew parallels between modern environmental challenges and ancient wisdom, as he referred to Virgil’s profound understanding of the environment. “He was the father of sustainable agriculture if we can say so, in the Georgics he spoke of the natural cycles of the earth, even of the value of composting,” King Charles noted, underscoring Virgil’s early recognition of sustainable practices that remain relevant today.
