Rome: King Charles in his historic address to the Italian parliament Wednesday cited the “legendary” anti-Mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone, who was killed by a Cosa Nostra bomb in 1992, and received a standing ovation from the assembled deputies and senators.

According to Ansa News Agency, King Charles expressed a deep connection to Italy, mentioning that it would always hold a special place in his heart, just as it did for his mother. He recalled how his mother celebrated her birthday in Tivoli and visited Capaci, the site near Palermo where the bombing occurred, to pay homage to Giovanni Falcone.

During the address, a communications error led to the premature announcement that the speech had concluded. However, King Charles resumed speaking after a brief pause, humorously remarking, “it’s a joke.” This light-hearted moment added a personal touch to the solemn and historic occasion.
