Los angeles: Jimmy Kimmel revealed on the Sarah Silverman podcast that he acquired Italian citizenship in June as a means to escape Donald Trump. The late-night comic host and four-time Oscar host expressed to the comic actress that “the situation is much worse than we imagined.”
According to Ansa News Agency, Kimmel, who was born in Brooklyn and is 57 years old, has Italian ancestry and announced his new citizenship on Italian Republic Day in Los Angeles on June 4. He credited his beloved grandmother Edith, whose family hailed from Candida in the province of Avellino, for enabling him to obtain Italian citizenship.
Kimmel also shared that his grandfather’s parents emigrated to New York from Ischia after an earthquake devastated Casamicciola in 1883, resulting in the loss of most of the family. Kimmel, who has led the late-night show on ABC for 23 years, made his announcement from the stage set up in the garden of a villa in Beverly Hills.
