Kids to Choose Uniforms’ Colour Near Siena in Gender-Neutral Initiative

Rome: Nursery school children in a small town near Siena will soon have the opportunity to choose the color of their school uniforms, as part of a gender-neutral initiative by local authorities, the council announced on Monday. Traditionally, Italian girls have worn pink and boys blue aprons, but this new policy aims to challenge these norms.

According to Ansa News Agency, starting in September, new entrants at nurseries in Torrita di Siena will be given the option to select from yellow, green, and red uniforms. The council believes that this change will help to overcome gender stereotypes and promote a more inclusive environment for young children.

The decision has not been without controversy. The right-wing League party has expressed strong opposition to the move, criticizing it as ideological and urging a return to traditional values. They have called for the preservation of what they consider to be a more serene and conventional approach to school uniforms.
