Kenya and Italy Launch HIV and TB Prevention Project

Nairobi: The Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Roberto Natali, attended the presentation event of the project ‘C.o.ac.h – prevention and community treatment of HIV and Tb/Hiv co-infection’.

According to Ansa News Agency, the project is financed by the Italian government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in synergy with The Global Fund. It is implemented by Medicus Mundi Italy (Mmi) in partnership with the Department of Diagnostics and Public Health of the University of Verona (Univr), Deaf empowerment Kenya (Dek), and the county directorate of Health, programs and partnerships of Machakos (Moh Machakos).

The initiative continues Mmi’s commitment to strengthening public health services for HIV prevention and community treatment, focusing on the prevention of vertical mother-to-child transmission and Tb/Hiv co-infection in Machakos County, Kenya.

At the heart of the project is the aim of connecting existing health services and enhancing the role of local communities, putting individuals and their social and territorial contexts at the center. This approach is intended to generate positive effects in terms of adherence to treatment for people living with HIV through individualized pathways, with a specific focus on vulnerable and at-risk groups, such as pregnant women, adolescents, and young people. The event also served as a platform for discussing and sharing future steps and objectives, with a collective commitment to building a future without HIV and TB.
