Budapest: János Latorcai addressed the suppression of the 1956 revolution before the agenda in the Parliament, emphasizing Hungary’s struggle for sovereignty and freedom. He highlighted the resilience of the Hungarian people who were determined to rebuild their country from the ruins without succumbing to external orders or terror. However, their hopes for a democratic revolution were crushed by betrayals and agreements between the two great powers, the United States of America and Russia, which ultimately sealed the country’s fate.
According to KDNP, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of European Union Affairs remarked that while the revolution was brutally suppressed, the ideals of Hungarian freedom and sovereignty remained alive. He criticized those who, both historically and presently, prioritize foreign interests over Hungarian sovereignty, insinuating that past allegiances to Moscow have shifted to Brussels.
