Courage of Hungarians in 1956 Revolution Commemorated in Veszprém.

Veszprém: The people of Hungary stood together against tyranny in the fall of 1956, and even though “the dream soon ended,” the courage of the Hungarians will forever set an example for the world, said the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior responsible for care policy, the KDNP politician, at the commemoration held in the Veszprém Castle on Monday, which was organized by local KDNP.

According to KDNP, the commemoration was part of the national day of mourning, marking the anniversary of the defeat of the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle, and the entry of Soviet troops. Attila Flöp, speaking at the memorial plaque of Árpád Brusznyai, highlighted that for all Hungarians, October 23 symbolizes freedom, victory, and justice, while November 4 signifies treason, encroachment, and injustice.

The state secretary emphasized the enduring spirit of 1956, urging the current generation to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for Hungary’s freedom and independence. He noted that the strength of remem
brance lies in preserving and carrying forward the legacies left by ancestors.

In his address, Attila Flöp recalled Veszprém’s role as a symbol of resistance during the revolution, pointing out that the students of Veszprém, like their peers in Pest, exemplified patriotism through their deeds and sacrifices. He stressed that the martyrs and survivors of 1956 should inspire current and future actions, reminding attendees that figures like Árpád Brusznyai, who was sentenced to death in the Veszprém concept trial, must not have died in vain.

Flöp concluded by stating that every Hungarian patriot who stood up for justice paved the way for both their contemporaries and future generations.
