Southern Lebanon—Italian members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) uncovered a series of explosive incendiary devices on a road leading to their operational base in southern Lebanon early Monday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the devices were found during a logistical patrol by the Italian contingent near the advanced operating base UNP 1-32A. The patrol spotted the explosives scattered along the road, prompting an immediate intervention by bomb disposal experts from the national contingent. These experts managed to secure the area but faced challenges when one of the devices unexpectedly ignited, leading to a fire in the vicinity.
Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries or damage to vehicles. The reasons behind the ignition of the device are currently under investigation, and further clearance operations were postponed as a safety measure.
