Perugia, Italy – In a proactive step to address growing concerns about judicial database security, Giuseppe Santalucia, President of the Italian Magistrates Union (ANM), has reached out to Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, requesting a meeting to discuss protective measures for judicial data.
According to Ansa News Agency, the request by Santalucia on Monday comes amid ongoing investigations by Perugia prosecutors into alleged illegal access of data by Pasquale Striano, a finance police officer formerly of the National Anti-mafia Prosecutor’s Department. The investigation targets 14 individuals suspected of unauthorized data access involving politicians and celebrities. Santalucia’s letter highlighted the “recent news reports on criminal investigations for multiple abusive accesses to the computer systems of the justice network,” emphasizing the low security levels that have alarmed magistrates. These concerns spotlight the perceived inadequacies in the IT security measures currently safeguarding the justice network’s sensitive data.
Santalucia expressed in his communication that the prevailing sentiment among magistrates is one of significant unease regarding the IT security of their operational platforms. He emphasized the need for ANM to receive reassurances or at least accurate information on the scale of the security breaches reported. This, he argues, is essential for mitigating the alarm and providing magistrates a clearer understanding of the challenges they face in maintaining the integrity of judicial data.
